Configuring Web Pages as Home Pages

One of my favorite features in Internet Explorer 8 is the ability to have up to eight home pages. When you configure a web page as a home page, Internet Explorer opens the page whenever you start a new browser session or click the Home button. If you have more than one home page configured, Internet Explorer opens each page in a separate tab.

The Home Options button to the right of the Home button allows you to display and select from a list of home pages that you've configured. You can also use the options it provides to add, change, or remove home pages. You can add or change home pages by completing the following steps:

1. In Internet Explorer 8, click the Home Options button to the right of the Home button.

2. On the shortcut menu, select Add or Change Home Page. This displays the Add or Change Home Page dialog box shown in Figure 7-11.

3. Choose one of the following options and then click Yes to save your settings: Use this webpage as your only home page

Removes any previously configured home pages and sets the currently selected web page as your only home page.

Add this webpage to your home page tabs

Adds the currently selected web page to the bottom of your home page tabs.

* . You can have up to eight home pages only. If you try to add a new home page and already have eight home pages, you'll see ' ' ^ v a warning prompt stating that you've already selected the maximum number of supported home pages. To add the web page as a home page, you'll need to remove at least one of the other home pages.

Use the current tab set as your home page

Configures all the web pages you've opened in the current tab set as your home pages. Internet Explorer adds the pages in the order in which the tabs are open currently. You will not be able to change the order later.

Being able to add the current tab set as your home page can save you a great deal of time. To use this feature to your best advantage, open in separate tabs up to eight web pages that you visit frequently. To get the pages in the desired order, click and drag the related tabs into the desired positions. Once you have all the pages open and in the desired order, select Add or Change Home Page and then choose "Use current tab set as your home page."

You can remove home pages by completing the following steps:

1. In Internet Explorer 8, click the Home Options button to the right of the Home button.

2. On the shortcut menu, click Remove. This displays a new shortcut menu.

3. Click a page to remove it or click Remove All to remove all pages.

4. When prompted to confirm the action, click Yes.
